The Hualien County Indigenous Museum was built in 2008. The gabled roof clad with flat grey tiles pays homage to the indigenous slanted slate roofs and cultural diversity of Taiwan's indigenous peoples.
The first floor houses an exhibition and performance space. The primary exhibit here is indigenous handcrafts. The auditorium is an ideal venue for performing troupes. There is a reading area at the entrance where many books on indigenous peoples are available to the public.
After a tour of the artworks on display, why not take a stroll in the green open space outside. This is also the venue for Harvest Festivals, folk sports competitions and other events.
